WAS ORIGINALLY CALLED CROSSROADS
Vinings is located along the Chattahoochee River just ten miles northwest from Downtown Atlanta. It is a still unincorporated town, yet its charming vibe makes it one of the most sought-after areas in the state. At first, Vinings was called Crossroads, then Paces up until 1830. The area became a construction station for the Western and Atlantic Railroad, and, as such, was named after William H. Vinning, one of the key figures that worked here.
Vinings was only officially recognized as a community in 1904 but was never incorporated. There is some talk among official and residence on whether it should ever become a genuine city. However, the significant concerns regarding possible property tax increase divided the public opinion, so the plans for Vinings to be incorporated where paused. Because of its current status, Vinings is under the jurisdiction of the Cobb County Commission and other similar public services.
However, Vinings shines just as much as other official cities in the area. It has a rich history, preserved today thanks in part to the Vinings Historic Preservation Society, which gathers quite a lot of tourists each year who want to learn more about local and Southern history.
