THE EPITOME OF A SMALL TOWN
Kennesaw is considered the epitome of a small town with all the perks of a big city. Located in Cobb County, the area counts approximately 32,000 residents. Most people know it as the staging ground for the Great Locomotive Chase from April 12h, 1862, during the American Civil War. Unfortunately, Kennesaw recently resurfaced in the news for a controversial law passed in 1982, through which every household head is required to own a gun and ammunition.
Kennesaw goes to tremendous lengths to preserve its history and culture. The most notable is undoubtedly the Southern Museum of Civil War and Locomotive History, an institution affiliated with the Smithsonian that contains a great collection of artifacts and relics right from the American Civil War.
Additionally, the museum also has exhibits on the railroads from all of Georgia and the surrounding areas, including the General, the steam locomotive used in the Great Locomotive Chase. As such, Kennesaw is one of the premier places to visit for history lovers, particularly if they’re interested in the Civil War. After the war, Kennesaw continued to prosper, and today it gathers visitors from all over the country who want to experience at least a part of its infamous charm.
