Mableton, GA is an unincorporated town located in Cobb County, GA and it’s the largest unincorporated community in the Metro Atlanta area, with a population of more than 37,000 as of the 2010 census.
It was named after Robert Mable, who purchased 300 acres of land in the area in 1843. It grew in population thanks to a Southern Railway rail station that opened in 1881, and it was first incorporated as a town in August of 1912 – but it was disincorporated only 4 years later in 1916.
Today, it’s well-known for various attractions including the Mable House, which is listed on the National Register of Historic Places and is home to the Mable House Barnes Amphitheatre. Concerts, exhibitions, theatre shows, and tours are regularly held at the Mable House grounds, and attract attendees from hundreds of miles around.
Mableton is also home to a number of excellent parks including Lions Park, Nickajack Park, and Heritage Park, which is home to a historic cemetery and mill building. It’s also part of the popular Silver Comet Trail of Georgia, a multi-use National Recreation Trail built along an old rail route that passes through Mableton.
